Every day, we all wear clothes. Some even identify their personality to a type of clothing. Mental health is invisible, but we all need to take care of it. Lots of people with or without a diagnosis can sometimes feel stigmatized. That is why, the collective artwork Cycle Délicat // Gentle Setting aims to deconstruct these taboos. It is the result of a collaboration between the organization My Shack, My choices, My future and a student at Bishop’s University, Maïthé Cyr-Morin. The 12 participants were invited to customize their T-Shirts in order to express their emotions, their opinions and/or their experiences related to mental health in the form of writing and illustration.
In conclusion, at the sight of a wide variety of perspectives and T-Shirts, the artwork demonstrate that everyone lives with mental health issues, but he lives it in a very unique way. POURQUOI DES T-SHIRTS ET QUEL EST LE LIEN AVEC LA SANTÉ MENTALE? // WHY T-SHIRTS? AND WHAT IS THE LINK WITH MENTAL HEALTH?
Because clothes answer at the same time to a unique need and to a collective need. That is to say, they allow us our expression while being associated with a socially recognized piece of clothing.
By comparison, mental health is lived in a very personal way by an individual. Furthermore, every member of the collectivity lives with mental health issues.
Then T-Shirts became a means to express the duality between unicity and multiplicity.
